the Best Feather Earrings grew out of my longing for nickel-free jewelry that was affordable and beautiful.

I have extremely sensitive ears and skin, so finding earrings that not only expressed my artistic side, but also kept me from getting hives or rashes was challenging. I also love outrageous textures and colors, unique designs, and one of a kind pieces. Feather jewelry gives me all of those characteristics and a lightweight option that allows me to wear them all day. I started out by swapping the findings and hardware on my existing earrings for nickel-free pieces and progressed into creating designs of my own. I nickel test all my findings and I keep everything clearly labeled--I also sell items that only have "hypo hooks", which results in a savings for people who don't have to be as worried about these things as I do.

I got really excited when I stumbled across some feather wholesale companies who specifically use cruelty-free raised birds to harvest feathers from! I discovered that I could get access to much healthier, heartier feathers that have natural shine and resiliency--something that's definitely missing when feathers are harvested from caged laying hens, or the like. I also feel that utilizing peacock feathers that are shed naturally keeps with the values and conservation techniques that I learned while volunteering at the Cheyenne Mt. Zoo when I was younger. All in all, I think cruelty-free feathers make for much richer, opulent earrings that last longer and feel better on my skin.

*all pictures of me modeling the earrings are taken prior to placing a fresh set of never worn before hooks on the earrings. I do recommend cleaning the hooks prior to wearing just as a hygienic precaution.
