For a purse or tote, this bag has loads of bright colors and floral designs for a vibrant spring effect. It was made as an entry in the 2012 Spring Challenge; read about the challenge at http://community.zibbet.com/forum/topics/spring-challenge-rescuing-trash-to-create-spring-themed-art.

The bag is made of all recycled materials, scrap, or materials that would have been destined for the trash. The basic shell is made of a variety of fabric scraps leftover from projects done over the past 20 years. You will find purple poppies, red/orange orchids with parrots, blue monstera leaves, and more. Two floral design embroideries are incorporated; these were done as experiments and never used in a finished product. Thread used to stitch it all together came from the tail ends of spools which did not have enough thread to do any complete project.

A braided accent surrounds the bag with coordinated colors. The braided cords were excess cording cut off venetian blinds, then colored with sharpies.

The sides and bottom of the bag are stiffened by an inner structure of wallpaper underlayment leftover from a remodeling project 15 or more years ago.

And you probably wonder about the nifty plastic rods that form the handles. Those were scavenged off a couple of broken plastic coat hangers. The ends have been drilled to allow them to be attached to the bag structure with thread so they don't pull out. (Even so, they are as flexible as plastic coat hangers, so you probably do not want to put much heavy stuff in the bag.)

A strap secures the top with a snap closure (okay, the snap really was not trash and would have been used for another project).

The plastic box which is visible in two of the photos inside the bag is not included.

The bag is 11.5" x 8" (not including handles) x 4".

This bag was fun to design and make, and will be fun to use.
