You will receive two digital scans -- two versions of the same vintage French postcard. For the purist, I present the original .... which comes with a mystery! This too cute design is actually adverting Balto cigarettes, a French ciggie promoted as having "American taste"! On the original postcard, the sender blacked out the T in Balto. What was the inside joke? I'm not sure, but when I used my translation service, Bal O came up as Mailbox O. A secret delivery? A hidden message? Before I let my imagination run away, on to Scan 2. It was quite a feat to 'restore' this card. It is not perfect by any means, but the Art Deco design of the little cowboy on his steed really stands out. One thing I think is extra sweet about this design is that at first and second glance, you don't even realize this is an advertisement for cigarettes. You can tell the buckaroo is holding something in his hand, but at first look, you don't realize it's a pack of ciggies. It just comes across as a darling little cowboy. This is a rare postcard. I'm pleased to share it with you.
