This is a scan of an antique 1908 American postcard. While my specialty is French postcards, I acquired a whole album of US postcards and great images speak across all boundaries, so I couldn't resist this one. This image speaks volume. It is very shabbily chic. I have lleft all of the wondrous antique signs: specks, spots, torn edge, etc. However, I did clean up her face:) Since it is 5x7, greeting card size, if you want to crop off all the white space, you will still have a sizable image for ATCs.
On the back of this card Stella wrote (I've copied it exactly as she wrote it), "Dear Mother, how do you like my boy's picture ain't she a daisy I think this is alright for a comic Valentine don't you. We are pretty well at present how are you." So Stella, all gussied up in her overalls, had a great sense of humor -- and style! Notice her turned-in pigeon toes....Although Stella was from Marion, Kansas, this image will resonate with anyone who's from the country (my hand is raised high! and yes, I've had several favorite pairs of overalls:) A superb image to make into your own comical Valentine greeting card, use in altered art as a background image to set atmosphere or turn into a greeting card.
