Profile for GlassHalfFull

A speech language pathologist by training, Amy Sonntag learned she needed to embrace her creative side as well as her love of color. She started with paper crafting, but was drawn to glass creations of many kinds at various art fairs and galleries around the country for more than a decade. After talking with many artists about their craft, Amy eventually fulfilled a goal to learn how to make fused glass jewelry in a kiln through a basic fused glass class. Her hot glass creations encompass designs that are reminiscent of large quilts with their geometric shapes and designs. Amy especially likes the play of colors and creating 3D effects using multiple layers of various types of dichroic glass. The nature of hot glass can be unpredictable and opening the kiln to see the final pieces is like opening an unexpected present; sometimes it isn’t exactly what you want, and sometimes it is so much better than you thought it could be.
