The Return of Quetzalcoatl - Earrings - Beloved Collection - Icons Series - OOAK
Description
These are 2 inch silvertone brass earrings, wire-wrapped with pure copper wire, turquoise and Czech glass.
Quetzalcoatl is a Mesoamerican deity whose name comes from the Nahuatl language and has the meaning of "feathered serpent". The worship of a feathered serpent deity is first documented in Teotihuacan, circa 400 BC. In the Maya area he was approximately equivalent to Kukulcan, also roughly translated as "feathered serpent" in different Mayan languages.
Among the Aztecs, Quetzalcoatl was related to gods of the wind, of Venus, of the dawn, of merchants and of arts, crafts and knowledge. He was also the patron god of the Aztec priesthood, of learning and knowledge. Quetzalcoatl was one of several important gods in the Aztec pantheon along with the gods Tlaloc, Tezcatlipoca and Huitzilopochtli.
Care of your jewelry:
Do not allow this jewelry to become wet such as in the shower or pool. The copper has an anti-tarnish coating that will wear off if the piece becomes wet. If your earrings become wet, dry promptly with a soft towel.
Do not bend, twist or otherwise manipulate the beads and wire on these earrings. Wire-wrapped jewelry is fragile and may not be suitable for individuals under age 14.
