We founded our business on the notion that art can be created with trash as its focal point, or that art can be significantly enhanced by trash. What is trash? Anything someone else threw away, didn't want, or got broken. Trash is misunderstood treasure, made beautiful by chips, scrapes and damage.
The studio where A Different Kind of Pretty is made is a library of baskets and racks of "busted junk" rescued from the trash: scrap metal/vinyl/leather, buttons, box lids, broken porcelain and jewelry, and rusted tools.
Listings will indicate what materials in each piece were pulled from trash and which materials are 'new.'
Since beginning our business on a foundation of "trash to treasure," we have moved forward to include top-quality Czech glass, crystal and genuine semi-precious stone materials. We now chiefly work in the realm of "concept art," which entails jewelry and art pieces that take texture, colour scheme and interpretive imagery of beloved characters as their inspiration. The vast majority of our pieces are unique wearable Fan Art from many different genres and across multiple fields of interest. Each hand-crafted piece is OOAK (one-of-a-kind).

One day I was crocheting daisy chains and reading Brian Froud's 'Faeries' when I learned that daisy chains actually keep faeries away. I put away my needle and decided to make a necklace that would be suitable for a water faerie. And I didn't stop until, five weeks later, I had over fifty items in the Fayrie Lights Collection.
A note on the spelling of the word 'fayrie': There are many ways, for instance, faery, fairy, fairye, fae, fay, fey, and I have chosen "fayrie" because for me it harkens back to a time in the Dark Ages when literacy was a creative process and people ardently believed in the folklore of the Realm of the Fair Folk, and the Fayrie Queen and all the spirits of nature were given proper genuflection. It is this energy that I would like to invoke with the Fayrie Lights Collection. I hope very much that it brings delight to all who see it.

Our wedding collection consists of hand-made ring pillows and hair accessories which are composed chiefly of upcycled and vintage materials. Antique handkerchiefs, vintage buttons, upcycled ribbon and found objects all go into the ring pillow we bring you from A Different Kind of Pretty. I truly hope you will enjoy and fully appreciate the detail and dedication to both design and upcycling that goes into one of our ring pillows.

As an adolescent I identified with Sailor Moon, the dubbed English version, however it wasn't until I was an adult in my early 20s that I watched the original Japanese and laughed, gasped, cringed, cried, and rejoiced with the characters as though they were real people and friends I could feel for. My deep love for Sailor Moon has inspired in me a line of charm jewelry that has become the most popular of any of my previous collections. Also it has proven to be very hands-on with the clients, as almost every day I receive emails of ideas and requests for new pieces that I hadn't considered before.
As compared to the rest of our store, very minimal upcycled material is used in the Sailor Moon Collection, however I upcycle into this line whenever I possibly can.

Hayao Miyazaki's compelling works of fiction inspired the pieces in this collection. Each piece represents a character from Miyazaki's outstanding works of art.

The Character Collection is a line of jewelry devoted to specific beloved characters from anime, cartoon, manga and comic art. Most of the ideas for the pieces in this line have come from my clients who have made suggestions or requests for certain characters.

I have been reading tarot cards for 12 years and have become intimately acquainted with the work of Arthur E. Waite in partnership with Pamela Coleman Smith. Most of the pieces in this line are representative of P. C. Smith's paintings, however I am hoping to expand into other tarot decks as well.

To me, a "fruit of Eden" is any fantasy flower or seed from the Garden. Exotic vegetation has always appealed to me and I seek to represent fantasy fruits and flowers with gemstone and Czech glass.

The "Beloved" in this collection refers to the entities and icons we hold in a special place in our hearts, that may not fit a specific character or series. This includes authors and entire literary works, food items, ascended masters, and more.
