Extra Information
I just love to make jewelry. Custom orders are welcome! Let me know what you want and I'll let you know if I can do it, and for how much. Just ask. Please contact me directly and we can design your unique piece.
KP Designs handcrafted jewelry uses Precious Metal Clay (PMC) for creating its main focal point.
PMC was developed by scientists in Sanda, Japan in the early 1990’s. Metal Clay is composed of microscopic particles of either silver, bronze, copper or gold which are mixed with water and an organic (naturally occurring) binder creating a pliable material with a consistency similar to pottery or modeling clay.
This clay can be worked using very simple tools and your own very talented fingers. The clay is rolled, pressed, squeezed, layered and molded into a desired shape. After the finished piece has dried, the object is taken to a specific heat and drives off whatever moisture remains.
After firing (either in a jewelry kiln or with a torch), the water and binding agents burn off leaving a piece that is composed of 99.9% fine silver, copper, bronze, or gold.
These pieces are definitely unique, containing tiny marks and faint fingerprints on the back of the piece where I worked and formed the clay. I decided to retain these because it shows that my pendants are made by hand and one of a kind. These pieces were hand stamped, tumbled for smoothness and polished for shine then embellished with freshwater pearls or genuine gemstones.
