A BLAB ABOUT THE PATTERN:
I've always liked Maryjane shoes; and wanting a pair for myself recently, I looked around for a pattern that fit my wishes. What I found, though attractive, just didn't fit requirements! I'm like The Princess And The Pea about the soles of my socks and slippers, and I cannot stand it if they aren't smooth and lacking ANY bumps. I also like a good fit ... no bunching or too-big portions, and I want them to stretch to fit sizes from small to large so a house guest can wear mine no matter if she's bigger or smaller than I am. All these are "must haves," and of course, I want them to maintain a pretty look!
With those thoughts in mind, I took the ideas from many other patterns (for slippers as well as socks) and came out with this, my own design. There are the two styles -- featuring straps or ties; but otherwise they are exactly the same, having smooth soles, cables adorning the toe portion and a good fit that stretches to fit a wide number of sizes without bunching or loose areas.
The pattern is intended for sport weight yarn. Thicker or thinner yarns can be used, just requiring a decrease or increase in the number of stitches used for the foot portion, but the procedure and instructions remain the same. When sport weight yarn is used with the recommended needle size, they will fit adolescent to a women's size 11 (US) or more.
I find these really terrific for 'round the house as well as for wearing to bed. If you're like me and can't sleep if your feet are cold, then you will very much love these for bed slippers! :D
