“Originally a teaspoon made in 1930 by John Round & Son Ltd, Sheffield, I was recently discovered by Milomade and lovingly re-crafted into this ring for someone special.”
A large elegant ring made from a silver teaspoon with an anthemion pattern design often know as the King's Pattern hence the name 'Raigain' meaning little king. The stem of the spoon is decorated with small palmette designs and curves round and out to form the ring terminal with a radiating, fan-shaped motif suggestive of a palm leaf.
Can also be worn as a thumb ring due to the large sizes available.
Sourcing, restoring and re-purposing antique silverware into unique delicate jewellery is something I really enjoy. I much prefer to use fine silverware as a starting point for my jewellery as this way I am recycling rather than using up the world's natural resources. There is a sense of history with each piece and I feel that as I am forming each ring, sanding and polishing it, I am capturing a memory or an essence of the past.
