“Originally a teaspoon made in 1964 by Barker Brothers, Birmingham, I was recently discovered by Milomade and lovingly re-crafted into this ring for someone special.”
A simple delicate ring made from a sterling silver teaspoon with linear pattern design. The stem of the spoon is plain and engraved with lines emerging and dividing along the stem towards the terminal where the pattern ends with a couple of simple curves. Proserpina is the Roman myth name of a goddess equated with Greek Persephone. The name comes from the word proserpere, meaning to emerge.
Sourcing, restoring and re-purposing antique silverware into unique delicate jewellery is something I really enjoy. I much prefer to use fine silverware as a starting point for my jewellery as this way I am recycling rather than using up the world's natural resources. There is a sense of history with each piece and I feel that as I am forming each ring, sanding and polishing it, I am capturing a memory or an essence of the past.
