MostlyMaille's Shop Policies

Welcome

If you have questions about any of the following policies, please contact me.

***PAYMENT***
I currently accept Paypal and Money Orders. Payment via Paypal is due within 3 days of purchase. Note: You do *not* need to set up a Paypal account to use Paypal if you are using a credit card, but setting up a Paypal account will make future Etsy purchases easier. Payment via Money Order must be *received* within 7 mailing days. If payment is not received and you do not contact me, I reserve the right to relist the item.

Shipping Information

To maintain the integrity of your jewelry purchase, all purchases are shipped in a well-padded box. I do not use padded envelopes as your jewelry may get squashed and damaged during shipping.

Contact me if you live in the Toledo, Ohio area. We may be able to work out a way for you to either pick up your purchase at my home studio or I can drop off your purchase and you can avoid the shipping cost.

All other items are shipped via USPS Priority Mail within 2 days of *receipt* of payment (usually next day or sooner). If you are purchasing multiple items, I will try to conserve your shipping costs by fitting as much as possible into the smallest box possible, but I will not compromise the integrity of your purchases. If a larger box is needed, your shipping cost will probably increase.

If you need your purchase quickly, please contact me to arrange shipping via UPS. Additional shipping costs will apply.

Refunds, Returns and Exchanges

For sanitary reasons, earrings cannot be returned or exchanged.

Refunds and exhanges will be handled on a case-by-case basis. "Buyer's remorse" is not an acceptable reason. Please contact me to discuss a return or exchange.

Custom design requests are non-refundable. However, I want you to be happy with your custom design, so I will pay for the shipping to me and back to you *one time* to alter your design if it is not exactly what you were expecting.

If your purchase is damaged upon receipt, please contact me so that we can arrange to have the item returned at my expense. I will fix or replace your purchase to your satisfaction or your purchase price (not shipping) will be returned to you.

Extra Information

***CUSTOM ORDERS***
I welcome your custom order! If you see a piece of jewelry in my shop and would like it in a different metal(s), in a different color(s), and/or in a different size, contact me. Custom orders require a downpayment of 50% of the purchase price. Balance is due upon completion of your jewelry order.

***WHOLESALE and CONSIGNMENT***
If you are interested in selling MostlyMaille jewelry in your establishment, please contact me. Let's make your customers happy!

***A NOTE ABOUT MY STUDIO***
My studio is in my pet-friendly home. My little Jack Russell terrier and his pets (two Golden Retriever mutt sisters) often hang out (i.e. sleep and snore) while I create my jewelry.

***CARING FOR YOUR JEWELRY***
STERLING SILVER: Sterling Silver is 92.5% silver. Tarnish is caused by the Copper in the Sterling Silver. Your Sterling Silver jewelry should be cleaned after each time you wear it, then properly stored.
TO CLEAN: Clean your Sterling Silver jewelry after each time you wear it to keep the tarnish, dirt, and oil buildup to a minimum. Polish your Sterling Silver with a paste of baking soda and water and a soft toothbrush in the palm of you hand. Rinse well and pat dry with a clean cloth. If your Sterling Silver is extremely tarnished, it can be covered in this baking soda paste and left overnight. The next morning, rinse well, use a soft toothbrush to get all the paste off, and pat dry with a clean cloth. Make sure your jewelry is completely dry before storing. To prevent tarnishing between wearings, store your jewelry in a zip-top baggie to limit its exposure to air (squeeze as much air out the baggie as you can).

ARGENTIUM STERLING SILVER: Argentium Sterling Silver is 92.5% silver, the same percentage as Sterling Silver. Copper is what makes Sterling Silver tarnish. Remove the Copper and you remove tarnish. Germanium replaces the Copper in Argentium Sterling Silver and makes it highly tarnish-resistant.
TO CLEAN: Clean your Argentium Sterling Silver jewelry after each time you wear it to keep the dirt and oil buildup to a minimum. Not much work is required to keep your Argentium Sterling Silver jewelry shiny and bright. Simply use a little soap (like shampoo or dish soap), water, and a soft toothbrush. Pat dry with a clean cloth. Make sure your jewelry is completely dry before storing.

COPPER: All the following cleaning methods use a form of acid to clean your Copper jewelry. This acid *must* be neutralized (thoroughly rinsed away) after cleaning. If the acid is not neutralized, it will corrode and microscopically pit your Copper jewelry. This means there will be even more surface area on your jewelry for tarnish to attach to and, therefore, more tarnish for you to clean. To prevent tarnishing between wearings, store your jewelry in a zip-top baggie to limit its exposure to air (squeeze as much air out the baggie as you can).
TO CLEAN: Clean your Copper jewelry after each time you wear it to keep the tarnish, dirt, and oil buildup to a minimum. First, wash your Copper jewelry with shampoo or dish soap to remove any oil and dirt. Then use a solution of about one cup of lemon juice or white vinegar and one tablespoon of salt in a jar with a lid. Drop your jewelry into the jar, close the lid, and swish and swirl your jewelry for a moment. Remove your jewelry, rinse very well, and pat dry with a clean cloth. Repeat if necessary. Make sure your jewelry is completely dry before storing. Note: This lemon/vinegar and salt solution can be stored in your refrigerator and can be used many, many times.
MAKING YOUR COPPER GLOW AGAIN: If your Copper jewelry looks a bit matte (not shiny) after cleaning, use a paste of baking soda and water and a soft toothbrush or soft cloth to scrub your jewelry in the palm of your hand. Rinse well and pat dry with a clean cloth. Repeat as necessary. Your jewelry will have a wonderful, warm glow.

GOLD FILLED: Gold Filled metal is made by permanently bonding a layer of 14 karat Gold to an alloy/base metal core. The only thing that comes in contact with your skin is 14 karat Gold. Gold Filled has 100 times the amount of 14 karat Gold as plating. It is strong, durable, and resistant to tarnish. It will not flake off. Many antique pieces, especially watches, are made from 14 karat Gold Filled metal. In order to carry the label “Gold Filled”, it must be at least 1/20th (by weight) 14 karat gold. The result is a metal that looks and wears like 14 karat gold but is much more affordable.
TO CLEAN: Although 14 karat Gold Filled jewelry will not tarnish, it will get dirty. The oils from your skin transfer to the metal and need to be washed off periodically. The easiest way to clean your handmade chain is to scrub it with an old soft toothbrush and shampoo or dish soap. Rinse well and pat dry. Make sure your jewelry is completely dry before storing.

ALUMINUM: Aluminum by itself is a fairly soft metal and can be easily scratched with abrasive cleaners and scouring pads (like steel wool). Even when mixed with other metals to create a stronger, more durable alloy, Aluminum is still quite soft when compared to Sterling Silver and Copper.
TO CLEAN: Usually hot water, dish soap, and a little scrubbing with and old soft toothbrush is all you will need to clean your Aluminum jewelry. If your Aluminum jewelry is still dingy, you can clean it using the same methods for cleaning copper. (Note: Do not use the baking soda copper method on colored (anodized) Aluminum. It may scratch the color coating.)
