Welcome to Mother Earth Goddess.

I have been making my own soaps since 1998 when I first discovered melt & pours at one of the major craft stores. After reading about SLS (Sodium lauryl sulfate), I decided until I was 100% sure of its ingredients, I would find an alternative. SLS is the chemical that is added to products, like toothpaste, ant-acids, harsh, detergents, degreasers, and melt & pour that give it its bubbly action. It can also cause mild irritation on contact with skin, eyes or mucous membranes, skin contact could cause irritation or allergic reactions. Moderately toxic by ingestion. Those are the reports found at Bodiorganic.com.

Armed with this information, I set out to experiment with lye based soaps. Yes! I hear you. And so I called people who know and they asked if I flunked chemistry? I guess I did, it was the 60's. You see soap is the result of a chemical reaction between oil or fat and lye called the saponification process. The saponification process is defined as the reaction of combining a base, which is animal fat or vegetable oil with an alkali, which is lye (sodium hydroxide), to produce a salt, which is soap and a free alcohol (glycerin). The goal of the process is to create soap with no leftover fat or lye. And in commercial soap-making, the glycerin is removed, SLS is added and you have melt & pour.

Even after 10+ years of making soaps, every now and then I produce a batch where I have to ask myself, "WHAT WAS I THINKING!" They still clean and some of them produces some of the biggest and best bubbles I've ever experienced. They just seem to be down-right ugly.

Now, another avenue I wish to explore is SLS-FREE melt & poor. I'll get to that in 2010.

Some of my old-fashioned natural soaps contain animal products such as lard. This information will be indicated in the soap description and ingredients.

Some may contain essential oils, fragrance oils (or combination of both), herbs and flowers, and occasionally FDA approved soap color.

I also create unique one-of-a-kind pieces of jewelry using wire, natural stones, and beads. No two pieces are the same as each piece takes on a life of its own.

Thank you for stopping by my on-line store. Take a look around and let me know if you find something you like for yourself, a friend, or a family member.
