Profile for MoxyFoxBooks
Both my grandmothers were book lovers. Grandmother Irene took me to visit a book mobile one sunny morning. Too embarrassed to ask how the system worked — I was probably six— I searched for books that didn’t have another child’s name on the check-out pocket card. We left with one book. The fines are probably pretty steep by now seeing that the book was lost over fifty years ago. Good grief!
Grandmother Jesse Walton taught in a one-room schoolhouse in Ellensburg, Washington in the early 1900s. By the time I was born she was teaching at a military school in Denver. Oh, how many hours we spent sitting on the floor going through her books. I can still hear her reciting Longfellow’s “The Song of Hiawatha”:
By the shores of Gitche Gumee,
By the shining Big-Sea-Water,
Stood the wigwam of Nokomis,
Daughter of the Moon, Nokomis.
Dark behind it rose the forest,
Rose the black and gloomy pine-trees,
Rose the firs with cones upon them;
Bright before it beat the water,
Beat the clear and sunny water,
Beat the shining Big-Sea-Water.
I majored in English and Art at the University of Washington and graduated from the 20 years later. University of Puget Sound. I have been a teacher, ghostwriter, editor, marketing consultant, owner of a small publishing house and a professional artist. I sold books on eBay for 10 years and on Etsy for six. My shelves are burgeoning with books that are perfect for your library. Come and take the treasures I have found and make them your own.
