1833 Victorian Natural History Engraving ~ Fritillary Butterflies, Pl 13
Description
From 1833 England, a gorgeous Naturalist Library engraving featuring 6 hand colored, delicate butterflies.
The three butterflies, each in 2-views, are studies in beautiful blue, mustard, copper, rust, and chocolate brown ~ all finely etched and published by William H. Lizars of Edinburgh ~
Melitaea Athalia. Heath Fritillary.
Melitaea Artemis. Greasy Fritillary.
Melitaea Silene. Pearl Bordered Fritillary.
The heavy paper is blank on its reverse, top-tipped in gold, and measures 4.125" x 6.375" (11x17 cm). The tissue guard remains attached and the paper shows gentle tanning to betray its 175+ years. The edges are smooth and clear and there are no tears, folds, creases, or marks on the paper.
You are purchasing an original 1833 engraving and it does not have watermarks. I'll send this to you flat, protected, and by USPS 1st Class mail.
