1839 Victorian Silver Pheasant Jardine's Naturalist Library Engraving, PL 18
Description
China's Silver Pheasant
A sumptuous hand colored Victorian engraving gleaned from Jardine's 1839 natural history reference on ornithology and Gallinaceous Birds.
I had to look it up, too ~ 'Gallinaceous' means 'heavy-bodied ground-feeding domestic or game birds'.
Finely etched and published by William H. Lizars of Edinburgh; the art is not credited. The tissue covered and gold-edged plate measures 4.25" x 6.5" (11x17 cm), with a gentle tanning to betray its 170+ years.
The edges are clean and clear and the corner tips have gently softened. There are no tears, folds, creases, or marks. A beautiful subject to frame or use in your art ~ it's a lovely antique paper.
You are purchasing an original 1839 engraving and it does not have watermarks. I'll send this to you flat, protected, and by USPS 1st Class mail.
