Antique 1845 Turkish Marbled Hand Pulled Matched End Papers

Deep burgundies, royal blue, rich golden mustard smooth creams ~ rich colors all swirled and feathered in a pattern ... yet without a pattern. Marbling.

Handmade marbled endpapers were at one time used extensively, but today they are found in a very limited number of hand-bound books.

The paper is heavier in order to take the wear inherent with a book being opened to that first page, again and again. Heavier, too, to be able to withstand the very process of marbling.

This beautiful set of 2 papers of rich reds, rusts, blues, and cream is from an 1845 English natural history reference. Each measures approx 6.625" x 10" (17x25 cm). The edges remain smooth and the corners sharp 120+ years later. Minor color scuffing can be seen along the edges.

An absolute treasure for use in your paper arts today ~ bookmaking, card and tag creation ... use as a background for your photography, a base for your collage. The feel, the weight of these papers is simply wonderful.
