Description

Bittern and Hawk

A wonderfully detailed engraving is featured on this finely detailed Victorian engraving gleaned from the 1850 edition of Tallis' Scripture Natural History For Youth.

The heavy paper is blank on its reverse and shows a gentle all-over tanning which betrays its 160+ years. The paper is clean and smooth and the corners only slightly softened. The page measures 5" x 7" (13x18 cm) and has no tears, folds, creases or marks.

'Tallis Scriptures Natural History' was an 8-volume 1850 English work devoted to the study with a religious slant and geared toward children. These were small volumes issued as serials or subscriptions.

The pages were bound by string which has long gone missing. The dating of '1850' comes from the volumes back-paper wrap which includes advertising for other items being offered by the publisher in the upcoming year ~ 1851.

A gorgeous study to frame, fantastic to use in your art ~ your card or scrap-book page making, your collage, mixed media.

You are purchasing an original 1850 engraving and it does not have watermarks. I'll send this to you flat, protected, and by USPS 1st Class mail.
