1927 George W Joy Historic Lithograph ~ Prince Charlies Farewell
'Prince Charlie's Farewell to Flora MacDonald'
The beautiful, historic oil painting was executed in the late 19th century by Irish painter George W. Joy (1844-1925) and is here presented as a lovely lithograph by André & Sleigh Ltd.
It depicts Prince Charles Edward Louis Philip Casimir Stuart, a very romantic historic figure, taking his leave with Flora MacDonald, after she secreted him out of Scotland and foiled the Government troops attempts to nab him.
It's quite a story ~ romance, royalty, intrigue, disguises, tall ships ~ the way my grandfather told it, I swear there were pirates involved, too. All my mother would say was that 'Bonnie Prince Charlie's tartan is on the shortbread tin'.
A lovely, sentimental painting, presented in warm, earthy tones of russets, golds, greens and browns, Joy's work is a romantic tribute to both the woman, the man, and their time and is dearly loved still today by many a Scot.
The heavy paper is blank on its reverse, measures 7" x 9.125" (18x23cm), and shows light foxing along the margins with little tanning. The paper is clean and without folds, marks, tears, or creases.
A lovely subject to frame and gift ... altogether wonderful for your art ~ card and scrap-book page making, collage, decoupage.
You are purchasing an original 1927 lithograph and it does not have watermarks. I will send this out for you flat, protected, and by USPS 1st Class mail.
