1843 Victorian Natural History Engraving Title Page ~ Chickens!!
1843 Victorian Chickens ~ Naturalist Library Ornithology Title Page
From the 1834 works of Sir William Jardine on Ornithology, here is Volume XIV's gorgeous title-page featuring ~ chickens!!
Here at Le Petit Poulailler, we particularly love when we come across chicken-ie things and we are really loving this find ~ featuring the 'Red Jungle Fowl, or Bankiva Rooster', found in the wild in India, China, the Philipines, and even Hawaii.
Finely etched and signed by William H. Lizars, *the* leading engraver from Edinburgh, the heavy paper is blank on its reverse and its top edge tipped in gold. The paper measures 4.125" x 6.5" (11x17 cm) and shows gentle tanning to betray its 175+ years.
The heavy paper is blank on its reverse, the corners only gently softened, and there are no tears or folds, no creases or marks on this splendid page.
The engraving is finely detailed and the hand-painted rooster is sumptuous and bright ~ vivid oranges, yellows, crisp ink-ie greens and blacks, with bright red cock's comb.
A unique paper to use in your art ~ a delightful image to frame and gift to your favorite chicken fan or bird-watcher.
You are purchasing an original 1834 hand-colored engraving and it does not have watermarks. I'll send this to you flat, protected, and by USPS 1st Class mail.
