Description

Antique 1833 Jardine Victorian Hand Colored Butterfly Engraving, Aaron Brown and Scotch Argus, Pl 25

Four scrumptious hand-colored engraved butterflies are featured on this paper ~
Aaron Brown. Hipparchia Ligea.
Scotch Argus. Hipparchia Blandina.

Gleaned from Sir William Jardine's 1833 'The Naturalist's Library: Butterflies of Great Britain,' the engraving is the work of William Hope Lizars of Edinburgh, *the* engraver of Victorian time.

The heavy paper is blank on its reverse, top-tipped in gold, and measures 4.125" x 6.375" (11x17 cm). The tissue guard remains attached and there is little tanning. There are no tears, folds, creases, or marks. A beautiful subject to frame or use in your art ~ it's a lovely antique paper.

You are purchasing an original 1833 paper and it does not have watermarks. I'll send this to you flat, protected, and by USPS 1st Class mail.
