Description

Antique 1833 Wm Jardine Victorian Naturalist Library Hand Colored Engraving Featuring Ringlet and Heath Butterflies

What a lovely name for a sweet butterfly! These 3 fluttering beauties were gleaned from Sir William Jardine's 1833 butterfly reference.

The three butterflies (with 2-views each) are studies in shabby hues of lavender and moss and bark brown and have been finely etched and published by William H. Lizars of Edinburgh, *the* engraver of his time ~

Hipparchia Davus. Small Ringlet
Hipparchia Polydama. Marsh Ringlet
Hipparchia Pamphilus. Small Heath

The heavy paper is blank on its reverse, top-tipped in gold, and measures 4.125" x 6.375" (11x17 cm).

The tissue guard remains attached and there is little tanning to betray its 175+ years. The edges are smooth and clear and there are no tears, folds, creases, or marks on the paper.

A beautiful subject to frame or use in your art ~ it's a lovely antique paper.

You are purchasing an original 1833 paper and it does not have watermarks. I'll send this to you flat, protected, and by USPS 1st Class mail.
