Antique Danish Market Town 1919 Engraving
Antique 1919 Kristian Kongstad Engraving, Denmark Market Towns, God's Gardens
A beautiful engraving of a welcoming front door in Ærøskøbing, Denmark, an ancient town in central Denmark, located on the island of Ærø. The suffix -købing means 'trade town' in Old Norse. This gorgeous engraving is from Kristian Kongstad's 1919 folio collection.
Finely detailed and signed on heavy cream colored card stock, the engraving is blank on its reverse and bears the inscription from the home's front door. The inscription/captioning translates (closely) as ~
'He who tills God's gardens with honor works with God. 1645.'
Ærøskøbing remains a charming, fairy-tale village after 750 years and a perfect idyll with cobbled streets, hollyhocks, and sweet, small homes with many peculiar details ~ all very reminiscent of a Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale.
A wonderful page for framing ... perfect to frame and gift or perhaps this wonderful engraving will make its way into your art? Perfect for card making, jewelry, collage, decoupage.
The paper measures 9.5" x 12.125" (24x31 cm) and is clean, without marks, tears, or folds.
You are purchasing an original 1919 paper and it does not have watermarks. I'll send this to you flat, protected, and by USPS 1st Class mail.
