Profile for SteiderStudios
A full-time glass artist, most of my work is created using a painterly approach with powdered glass. I like making sparkly glass bowls for home decor, beautiful jewelry to adorn the soul, and simply trying to get the imagery in my head materialized into glass. That imagery might be a representation of birds I am charmed by, some rocks I just saw down by the river, my extensive garden, or a radiant sunset.
I like incorporating organic lines inspired by nature, drawn with 22k gold and I use a lot of iridescent glass for sparkle! A perfectionist, I will rework a design until I'm proud to present it to you. Browse through my work and make your purchases knowing you will receive quality, well executed original designs.
A fiber artist for 20 years, I met kiln-formed (also called fused) glass in 1995 and fell in love. After finally catching up a three year backlog of commission work I sold my fiber studio to concentrate on glass full time in '98. I am also an instructor and in 2004 began instructing on the national level. I continue to teach basic kilnforming locally as well as being involved with the Arts In Education Program, working with kids in grades 4 through 12. I teach specialized techniques using powdered glass (Powderology, Play with Glass Clay, Beautiful Butterflies) at conferences and distributors across the USA.
Nature is my primary source for inspiration as I'm surrounded by magnificent landscapes in the heart of the Columbia River Gorge. Our personal connections with one another are becoming ever more apparent in my work, in particular my Celestial Series. You can get to know me and read about my process on my blog: http://steiderstudios.wordpress.com/ and website: http://www.steiderstudios.com. Or for more frequent updates, check in with me on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/SteiderStudios.

You'll rarely find me at outdoor art shows because from the age of 16 I've had my share of selling art in sunny heat, rainy fog, and fierce wind. On occasion someone will coerce me into it, but I much prefer a pleasant indoor atmosphere for selling my work. As a shopper also, I would rather not be at odds with the elements while trying to find the perfect piece of art.
My life goals are to have fun, be joyful and kind, and tread lightly.
Thanks for visiting my shop! I would love to hear from you. I welcome questions and comments.
