Grape Leaf earrings: pale green jade with antiqued-silver leaves
Antiqued-silver coloured grape leaves hang from silver-plated ear-wires, beneath small rounds of pale green jade. Each jade bead is framed by two tiny, silver coloured beads.
The grape leaf charms hang assymetrically, so that one will point forward slightly, towards your face, and the other backwards. The backs of the charms are smooth and shiny.
The kidney-shaped ear wires are made of stainless steel, plated with silver.
Jade is a semiprecious stone with a long and fascinating history. For thousands of years, jade has been valued both for its beauty and its usefulness. In China it was considered the 'imperial gem', used extensively in the households and burial chambers of Chinese emperors throughout various dynasties. At times it was valued more highly than gold or silver.
These jade beads are a translucent, gentle shade of pale green. They have tiny imperfections in them to remind us that they came from the earth.
The 'Grape Leaf' earrings are lightweight and easy to wear. They measure 54mm from top to bottom. The leaf charms are 27mm long, including the baile (hanging loop at the top), and 18mm across.
The beads have been simply slid onto the ear wires, so it is recommended that you keep the ear wires closed so that the beads do not slip off and get lost. Keeping the earrings hanging, rather than jumbled up in a jewellery box, will help to ensure that the ear wires do not get opened or bent by other jewellery pieces pushing against them.
