Description

This Gunne Sax dress that I'm listing today was first introduced in 1969 under Jessica McClintock's 'Black Label.' At that time, She was experimenting with different styles, themes and fabrics in order to find Her 'Niche'. This one proved to be a 'groundbreaking' style for Her. The simplicity of the unbleached muslin attracted the attention of the 'Hippie Society' of organic gardens and natural berry based dyes with a 'Mother Earth' quality. The lace brought to the Young Women of that time childhood dreams of being a 'Maiden Faire' or the Statuesque quality of a newly crowned Princess. It's destiny was sealed and the 'Flower Children' acquired these gowns to be Wed in with field flowers in they're hair and bare feet adorned only with a macrame and beaded ankle bracelet.
This piece is in Immaculate condition and was produced in the very early 70s. It still bears it's size tag as well as the Tan, Gunne Sax label.
The main fabric is a medium weight muslin (there were different weights of muslin used on these pieces). Unlike most Gunne's, this style did not come with sashes. It was cut to present a sleek silhouette that woud appear seamlessy as it flowed down to a skirt with a sweep of over 140".
The Bodice is the 'signature' tie corset with the tie being woven through macrame lace to tie at the top. this tie is windowed by a sturdy, floral themed lace that appears on the long, pointed sleeves, the attached, front apron, the back of the skirting and encircling the entire neckline. All of this lace is placed upon the muslin excepting the front ruffle that is sheer. More macrame lace encases all of these areas to reinforce and to set these features off. This piece has withstood the 'test of time' not only due to it's quality construction but, it's Classic Lines. It is in demand today as a wedding dress still. Though marked a Vintage 11, you must always go by the Measurements. These dresses commonly fluctuated in inches within the same size.
Once more, the condition of this item is Pristine. I already have one listed that is a 'Black Label'. This one is lower in price only due to it's lesser age. Enjoy the pictures. I always take delight in photographing these Pieces. Also, I always tie the corsets tightly when measuring. If You loosen them, there will be more fullness in the Bust area.
