Yet Another Scammer!
Unfortunately we have attracted another Scammer. As we get more and more well known this is going to become more prevalent. We will be sure to let you all know about it whenever this is brought to our attention. We don’t want our sellers getting scammed!!
This new scammer has the username, ‘emmanuelcarl’. Not nearly as creative as ‘JohnnyCool’, but he does have a creative story and intends to rip you off!
Some of our members received this message:
DEAR SELLER…. ITS MY VIRTUE E-MAILING YOU ABOUT YOUR PRODUCT AS IT WAS ADVERT ON YOUR WEBSITE…. AM EMMANUEL CARL, I LIVE IN BOSTON AND IM A SHIP SAILOR. I WILL LIKE TO MAKE AN OTHER FOR AN ART AND CRAFT WHICH IS ON SALES ON YOUR WEBSITE AND I WILL LIKE TO KNOW IF YOU ARE WILLING SHIP TO MY SON IN AFRICA BECAUSE I CANT RECEIVE ANY OTHER RIGHT NOW BECAUSE IM ON SEA SO I WANT THE OTHER PLACED TO MY SON IN AFRICA AND IM PAYING YOU WITH CHECK SO LET ME KNOW IF YOU ARE WILLING TO TRANSACT BUSINESS WITH ME……… BEST REGARDS EMMANUEL CARL E-MAIL:emmanuel_carl@live.com.com
We have removed ‘emmanuelcarl’ from the system, but as mentioned in a previous post, there is nothing we can do to stop him re-registering under a different username. For all we know, this could be ‘JohnnyCool’!!
If you ever receive a suspicious email, please do not reply, and let us know about it immediately.
Remember, that this is nothing to fear. It is just someone registering an account and contacting members. They are not trying to access your personal information or anything like that. We have this protected using Secure Socket Layers (SSL) with Verisign.
If you have any questions or comments, feel free to do so below.
UPDATE: Since we deleted ‘emmanuelcarl’ as a user, they have re-registered under the name ‘emmanuel’. This new username has been deleted also.
We are looking into ways we can prevent this happening in the future. One thing we will look at doing is restricting the amount of messages a person can send in a 24 hour period.

I just received an email from this very person. The only thing that tipped me off to a possible scam was that he wanted to pay with a check rather than PayPal. - Thank you to Zibbet for posting this warning. Sometimes it is tempting to respond to these offers in hopes that we might be making a legitimate sale. Thanks for protecting us!

Just got an email from this dude. Thanks for the heads up!
yup- i got an email as well. it seemed fishey but i asked him for more information. the email he has listed does not work. all in all not a very sophisticated scammer but thanks for the heads up
This dope can’t even write a complete sentence! Thanks for the heads up. From the Info I got from the Johnny cool scammer, I knew it was a scam.
I’ve received this idiot’s scam message (barely readable, due to his broken English) and it’s similar to a scam I’ve encountered on other web galleries I exhibit on. The solution: just politely tell the dummy you don’t accept checks and that he can order via credit card or PayPal and he’ll fade away, unable to do anything further.
Thanks a lot Zibbet Team for letting us know it!
unfortunately, the way the economy is right now, with so much unemployment out there we may be seeing a lot more of these scammers.to protect myself I always insist on Paypal.Paypal is very good at investigating scams.I had an instance where I bought something from Ebay, it was shipped and someone signed for it in another city as if they were me.Probably scammers partner in crime. After tracing package through Canada Post and seeing the electronic signature for receiving it I immediately contacted Paypal and they reimbursed me for the full amount.Other sites like Ebay warn you about scams and tell you not to send to Africa because they are notorious for scams.
I also received the email from Emmanuel. I knew it was a scam. Whenever anyone says they want to pay you away from the site they found you on, it is a scam….This is why I will no longer deal with any transactions on my own. The Beauty of ZIBBET is that they alert you of a scam right away! Way to go Zibbet!! The more I get to know Zibbet the more I like how everything is handled in a professional manner. ~CHEERS
Thank you Zibbet team, unfortunately for the second time you handled notorious scammers! It mean that you are professionals!
Well done!
Cheers………..
I have only been with Zibbet for three days and cannot tell you how happy I am that you watch over the site so well. I have not had anything like this happen to me as yet but now will be much more aware!
Thank you.
Thanks Zibbet! I got this email as well - figured it was a scam. I politely replyed I am happy to do business as outlined on my product page - only PayPal, a valid address and all shipping charges apply. It’s sad when artists are seen as prey. Thanks for the heads up!
I also got this email and contacted zibbet about it in case other sellers were getting the same email. I also sell on etsy.com and they have a system that automatically suspends messaging privileges when someone sends over a certain number of messages that are worded the same-perhaps zibbet could do something like that to nip these sorts of things in the bud.
Don’t ever reply to these using your personal e-mail address!
Thank you Zibbet, and keep up your good work!
My senses were immediatley on alert when I received a message from this guy, but I too politely replied, and told him I would only accept Paypal. It is sad to see that there are people out there preying on innocent people, but refreshing to see that we just won’t stand for it!
Thank you Zibbet for alerting us and staying on top of this!
I’m glad to see this article! I got an email from this jerk last night, and I knew it was a scam but couldn’t figure out how to report it to Zibbet. It’s great to see that he’s been discovered and that Zibbet has put the word out. Thank you!
I just got the same e-mail last night. Thanks zibbet for looking out for starving artists who dont need any help like that. you guys rock. what a creep!!
Many thanks, it’s so pleasant to rely upon so attentive command as zibbet is.
Thank you. I received 2 emails from this person. It just didn’t feel right and I only accept pay pal. Glad that you guys caught on to them.
Kym
Thanks everyone for all your positive feedback! It’s great to have your support.
We’ve worked out a way to reduce the impact of Scammers on the site and this will hopefully be implemented over the next few weeks.
Thanks for the alert — it makes one feel comfortable that Zibbet cares about their people. Everyone should be careful selling on line. There are many scams originating especially from Africa and other countries outside North America — international tracking is very difficult. Though we like to be nice to our buyers to sell our art, we still must be careful. If anyone accepts a check, make certain the check clears before sending the item(s)…you can put that fact in your “policy.” PayPal is a good way to do business — they are helpful and do check the person making the purchase and alert you if the buyer’s address is not “verified.” Unfortunately, the internet is inundated with scammers — including those associated with charities…
So far I’ve got three emails, but I don’t even bother to answer them.
Thanks for the emails, am not very confident with pcs but will follow your advice and only use paypal. Dave
Got the scam-mail the other day. Thanks for keeping everyone in the loop!
this scammer is just lame
thanks for zibbet as a beauty colour in the world
I’ve had a few emails from this “emmanuel” character. I do NO business with anyone unless it’s through what ever site I’m listed in. Just the safe thing to do. Have a great weekend everyone!
