Featured Zibbeter - OJuneJewelry

Please join us in congratulating this weeks Featured Zibbeter, Meg from OJuneJewelry!

Meg is someone that is always looking outwardly and loves to craft for a cause!  Currently she’s denoting 100% of her sales in her Zibbet shop to the Red Cross for the relief effort in Haiti.  It would be great if you could support what she’s doing and buy something from her shop.  She has some beautiful pieces!

Meg is also dedicated to helping promote and push Zibbet forward.  She tweets daily about her favorite finds on Zibbet.  If you’re on Twitter, you should follow her…@MyZibbetPicks.  If you’re not on Twitter yet, perhaps you should this article!

Here’s our interview with Meg…

  1. Tell us a bit about yourself?

My name is Meg. I’m 28 years old and I am a software engineer in Reno, NV. I’m happily married to a wonderful man and we have a beautiful daughter. I have all kinds of hobbies. Jewelry –making is just one of them. I started out making handmade gifts. All my friends suggested that I sell my work on sites like Zibbet, so here I am! Right now, I sell my work exclusively on Zibbet. I’m happy to be part of the grass roots group here on Zibbet.

  2. Apart from being ‘creative’ what do you do?

As I’ve said, I have all kinds of hobbies. I love cycling. I commute to work on my bike when the weather is nice. I participate in charity events throughout the year.  I just signed up to for a charity century bike ride in June. I always donate my finished jewelry for fundraisers. I’m currently collecting donations for the March of Dimes March for Babies event in April. If anyone would like to donate, you can go to http://www.marchforbabies.org/omegajune and submit a donation in any amount using a credit card or PayPal.

  3. What inspires you to do the kind of work you do?

There’s inspiration everywhere.  I can’t really identify one thing. But I’d like to mention that I get most of my creativity from books written by Margot Potter. I like the way she uses so many different mediums in her artwork. I try to make jewelry and other crafts using similar techniques.

  4. Do you look up to anyone? Who? Why?

I look up to the people who look up to me. I use them as an inspiration to accomplish my goals and do good things so that they will not be disappointed in me.

  5. What other passions do you have in your life?

Music.  I’m a singer and I can play the piano good enough to keep myself and others entertained. I’d like to learn the guitar and maybe the drums someday.

  6. What do you like most about Zibbet?

There are a lot of things I like about Zibbet, but what I like most of all is that Zibbet is new. Zibbet has the advantage of learning from the mistakes of other handmade venues and can avoid making those same mistakes. I love how Zibbet listens to the opinions of each and every artist and makes their decisions accordingly.

  7. What ‘new’ things would you like to see added to Zibbet?

I’d like to see a lot more new artists! I love handmade items and sometimes I’m amazed at some of the things people can make by hand.

  8. How do you promote your work?

I mostly promote my Zibbet shop to my friends on Facebook. I participate in craft fairs and network with other crafters. Right now the most effective marketing technique is word of mouth advertising. My friends tell their friends, and so on. I get a lot of custom requests from friends and friends of friends.

  9. How would you recommend other Zibbeters make the most of Zibbet.com?

Get a premium shop if you don’t already have one and then fill it up with items! I think a shop if more attractive when it is full. I don’t usually buy from shops that only have a few items. For some reason, an item looks more attractive when it’s displayed with plenty of other items.

  10. In the future I’d like to be…

…able to stay at home and craft all day. Because that’s just a dream, in reality I’d like to go back to school so I can advance my career as a software engineer or try something different like graphic design or electrical engineering. If I had the time and money, I would go get a degree in aeronautical engineering so I could build space ships for NASA. I’m a total geek, I know. I see myself going into retirement as a teacher of some sort, hopefully at a college or university, but I wouldn’t mind teaching elementary school.

I really enjoyed Meg’s Interview. I came across her site on Zibbet when she had her “pay it foward” picture frame charms. I bought one that day, and I keep it on my dest to remind me to “pay it foward” everyday. When she sent me my package, she included a little not that said, “don’t forget to “pay it foward”. It really inspired me to do more for the community arond me, This past christmas I made 17 pieces of jewelry for families in my area who could not afford to buy their daughters, or wifes a Christmas gift. I had such a great time making the custom pieces, and to see how happy these familys were made all the difference. I really owe it all to “O JuneJewelry”. Without Meg’s kind words, and devotion to making a difference, I may not have taken my business and done so much good for it! I am currently looking into donating to the Hati relief efforts. There are currently 17 new students in our schools who’s lives were turned upside down from the earthquake, I have already gotten intouch with 2 of the young ladies familys and am working on a piece fr the each of them, on being a locket to put her mom and dad’s picture in who were killed. I owe all this to Meg, and her “PAY IT FOWARD!!!” THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
