Market Your Biz By Celebrating National Craft Month

Did you know that you can market your craft business, just by celebrating the fact that March is National Craft Month? Here are some suggestions:

Craft Show - Get together with some friends and throw your own craft show this month. It can be at one of your homes, in a coffee shop, or wherever you can find space.

Teach A Class - There are lots of people out there who would love to learn a new craft but simply don’t know where to start. Why not teach a class? Contact your local craft stores to see if they offer space, ask your favorite restaurant if you can use their banquet room, or if you only have a few people, a regular table at a restaurant would be okay. Also check with your local library - some of them have meeting rooms you can use!

Attend Other Events - If other crafty events are taking place in your neighborhood, make sure to attend them! Becoming part of the local craft community is very important. It is a great way to meet new people, and it’s always fun to brainstorm ideas with people who have similar interests.

You are so right about the local craft community being important. I am so lucky to live in a small community (about 400 people) that has lots of other artisans. We have people working in leather, 3 potteries, glass, wood, pewter, baskets, sewing, and ironwork studios. We make it a point to get together and talk about trends, new ideas, vent our frustrations, sometimes we offer each other critiques (when solicited!) and whatever else seems important. We drink a lot of coffee too! We are located on a tourist route and we do group advertising to save money and to market ourselves as a destination for people who are interested in taking home a fine, hand-crafted, locally made souvenir. It is nice to have a support network of others who are earning their living in a similar manner.

Okay calling all Florida crafters (near me and I know there are a bunch), remember when I tried to organize a craft show here at my property and we didn’t go through with it, perhaps it was because we were supposed to do it during National Craft Month.

Who wants to get together and a have a Craft-Yard-Sale? (Before Hurricane Season.)
