With spring upon us, many are dreaming of a seaside escape to the beach. Now, because I live in Florida, and the sand beneath my feet is literally a short twenty minute drive, heading to the beach is easy. But for those of you that are unfortunately landlocked, or can’t make the trip, there are a few easy ways to transform your home into a restful, seaside retreat.

Whether you choose to just dip your toes into the design pool, or jump in head first, there is a solution for every home. Here are a couple of ideas…

First things first: color. Tap into the colors of nature using whites and linens as your neutrals. And then think about bringing in the feeling of the ocean, by adding blue accents. This can be done on a small scale easily with wall art, pillows, and other accessories. Or on a micro-budget with something as simple and inexpensive as fresh flowers (blue hydrangeas are perfect).

Another easy solution for tired walls and dark spaces is to brighten things up by putting the color directly on the walls. Painting not your thing? Try painting just one wall or even a side wall next to a staircase, etc to create a focal point. Bring those neutral whites and linens back in to the room, and you instantly have a more coastal look.
