The Zibbet Tag Game

Tags are keywords used to describe an item and are used by Zibbet’s Search to help buyers find your listings. It’s easy to create useful tags and with a little practice, you can become proficient at The Zibbet Tag Game!

Here are seven strategies to help you create winning tags:

Use all fifteen tags. The more tags you use, the more likely your item will be found in a Zibbet search.

Use both nouns and adjectives as tags. Tell what the item is, using one or more nouns. Describe the item using as many adjectives as you can. Keep a thesaurus handy to help you find synonyms.

Include the color name of the main color in the item. Be sure to also select a color from the Main Color section as this is another form of “tagging” and provides shoppers with an additional search option.

A tag does not have to be one word. You can also use phrases as tags. The text that you enter between commas is treated as a tag. You can only use alphanumeric characters in tags—special characters are not permitted.

Often, the material an item is made of is important. Be sure to include at least one tag that identifies the main material, if applicable. Please note that the content of the Materials field is not searchable, thus the need to possibly include at least one material tag.

If the size of the item is important, include it as a tag. Size tags are especially important for clothing and jewelry items such as rings. Please note that the content of the Size fields is not searchable, thus the need to possibly include a size tag.

Make sure your tags are appropriate for the item. Nothing is more annoying than searching for something very specific and having items come up that are completely unrelated to the search tag.

I hope these tips help you better understand basic tagging concepts. Next week, I’ll be sharing a few more strategies for creating tags. Invest some time planning your tagging game plan before you sit down at the computer to list. You’ll be glad you did!

Best wishes for much success on Zibbet!

This is very useful information. I wasn’t aware that phrases could be used. Good tip on adjectives and materials too. Thank you.

I posted a link to this on the ning forum. Hope everyone reads it.

Thank you. This is great info and some things I did not know are that the color palette selector IS a tag. I always ignore it because the colors don’t match what I list, but now will use it.

Also did not know the size and material field areas are not searchable.

Off to work on tags - they are sooo important!

I also did not realize phrases could be used. That is helpful. I try to go over all my listings weekly with a fresh eye and re-do my tagging. What may have seemed like a good tag name to me last week may need some re-doing this week.

As a follow-up to my May 26th post on tagging: never attend to your listings when you’re tired. I did this early on when first joining Zibbet and went back to look at everything a week or so later. I found many typos, had mistakenly listed tags in the “materials used” section, and a few other dumb mistakes. It really does help frequently fine-tune your listings. That “brainstorm” you had last week may seem ridiculous to you this week.

thanks for this, very useful. There’s a post on my Etsy team blog with lots of useful info: http://etsytreasuryteam.blogspot.com/2009/03/tagging-for-maximum-exposure-in-etsy.html

Thanks so much. It is always helpful to refresh and refine tagging info. Had not realized that including the primary color via word as well as clicking on the color was needed. Thanks for that mention.

Once again Vicki to the rescue.
    Thanks,

I’d love to use relevant tags for my listing - recycled being one of the one’s I’d like to us most, but whenever I include the tag recycled it gets stripped out by zibbet when I save my itme. I made them aware of this issue months ago and to this date there hasn’t been a solution. It’s a huge pain as when I do a search for recycled my items don’t show up.

  20. SuzanneMedrano

I just updated my tags on a cat toy made with a discontinued designer upholstery sample, and you are right Milomade - the work recycled was removed! Upcycled was left. What is wrong with recycled, and how did it make the banned word list? The creative use of materials destine for the trash is a very good use or resources, and very satisfying.

  21. Ellym

Thank you for all the info, wow I am going to be updating my tags

  22. LOCDesignStudio

I tested the use of the tag “recycled” with one of my listings and found it to work. My item along with 300+ tagged “recycled” were found in a search. However, I did observe that when I looked at my tags in edit mode, the tag “recycled” wasn’t there even though it shows in the public view of the item.

So, for anyone wanting to use this tag it should work even if it disappears from the list you see in edit mode. You can test it two ways: (1) do a search for the tag “recycled” and look for your item and/or
    (2) with your tags “turned on” (My Zibbet–>Shop front–>Include ‘Other Similar Items’ options on your listings?) log out of your account and look at the “public” view of the item. If you scroll to the bottom of the page, you should see your tags including “recycled”.

Support is aware that the tag “recycled” has gone missing from more than one seller’s list of tags on the page where the listing is entered and edited.

Being new to this I found the information quite useful and I find myself reading it prior to tagging my item. As I learn more I go back and edit my listings and getting more and more used to tagging my items. Thanks for the info I read all I can about listing here on Zibbet so I can get the most out of my listings and being part of this website,
