Tell us a bit about yourself?
I am a mother of four, three beautiful boys and my occasionally childlike husband. By day I teach Anatomy & Physiology, Biology and Cosmetology Science to over 100 high school students. Once I am home and spend some valued time with my kids and husband, I am ready for some ‘me’ time and that is what Sakura Bath & Body is for me. -
Apart from being ‘creative’ what do you do?
When I do have some spare time, which isn’t often, I am an avid reader. One of my favorite authors is Janet Evanovich, whose character, Stephanie Plum, reminds me of my grandmother and her antics as a single woman. I also enjoy hanging out with friends in uptown Athens, home of Ohio University.
-
What inspires you to do the kind of work you do?
I am inspired by the need for an escape from testosterone (remember, I am outnumbered in my house) and an understanding that others need an escape too!
And what woman doesn’t enjoy a spa experience? My childhood love of baking also inspires me – making bath and body products is like baking without the calories! -
Do you look up to anyone? Who? Why?
I look up to a number of people. My mother - she has shown me that it is possible to be a great mother while having a full-time career. I also look up to my father - he stands up for what he believes in and always played the devil’s advocate with me so I would do the same in my life. And lastly my husband, Brett, for taking a chance and going back to college as a non-traditional student so that he could follow his dream.

What other passions do you have in your life?
I’ve never really considered myself a passionate person, I just do the things I love and work hard at them. I guess you could say though, that I am passionate about kids, both my own and the ones I teach. In all aspects of my life, as a mother, a teacher and an entrepreneur, I love helping and educating people.
And now that I think about it, I am passionate about something, WENDY’S! On the nights I don’t feel cooking, I love my #1 (single with cheese and fries) with a Diet Coke (you know those erase all the calories in the burger and fries, right?). -
What do you like most about Zibbet?
Zibbet has excellent customer service; whenever I have had a question, I have had an answer within a couple of hours. I also like the ability to use coupons and store discounts. The coupons are great for local buyers because I can remove the shipping charges and the store discounts are awesome for sales.
-
What ‘new’ things would you like to see added to Zibbet?
I heard this is in the works, but I cannot wait to see an integrated forum. As a new business owner, receiving advice from other businesses can be really helpful and an integrated forum would help me to get to know other businesses and have other businesses get to know me.
-
How do you promote your work?
Just like any business word of mouth is the most valuable form of promotion. I provide an excellent product and great customer service, which has led to many referrals. I also have a Twitter account and a Facebook Fan Page so I can share what I do with more people than just the ones I encounter in my everyday life. -
How would you recommend other Zibbeters make the most of Zibbet.com?
Purchase a premier account and list often - it doesn’t cost anything and keeps your shop active.

In the future I’d like to be…
Happy! A happy family is the most important thing to me. Oh, and spoiling a few granddaughters would be great too!

Michelle, It is so nice to meet you! I am a former high school biology teacher. Anatomy and Physiology was my all time favorite course to teach, particularly the physiology part. I have a husband and two grown sons, so I know all about living in a house full of testosterone LOL! I had to adopt three female kitties so the girls would outnumber the guys. I’m off the check out your shop and do some window shopping for future purchasing. Thanks for a great interview! Vicki
Nice interview, thanks for sharing.
Nice to meet you and lovely shop! I like the way you describe your product. Makes me want to eat them!
I can say her products are as wonderful as her descriptions.
I bought Sakura’s Sugar Scrub Duckies.
They are so CUTE! And they made a perfect present for my daughter who collects anything to do with Rubber Duckies.
They came packaged really nice!
Great gifts at Sakura if you need a gift coming up. You know all those summer birthdays.
Judy
Thanks so much for the great comments everyone!
Vicki, Anatomy/Physiology is one of my favorite classes to teach, but I have to give some credit to my first Cosmetology Science students. When I suggested they make their own bath and body products for a project, they ran with the idea and we started researching and creating. It was through all this research and experimentation that I started to love making soaps and lotions. If it hadn’t been for their enthusiasm with the project, I may never have started!
Thanks for the shout out, Judy!
I absolutely love handmade bath and body anything. Being one with extremely sensitive skin, I have to find natural products. Plus they always have better smells and I seem to enjoy them more knowing that someone cared enough to make something wonderfully refreshing for me!
