Featured Zibbeter - SewShine

Summertime is when the most babies are born. Chances are you will be needing a special baby gift this summer.

Meet Rebekah of Sew Shine who can custom-create a unique baby gift for you that will not be duplicated by anyone else.

Rebekah specializes in embroidery design and sewing. She loves children and says that all children feel special when they are given a gift with their name on it.

Since she is a digitizer as well, she can even take artwork that your child has created and embroider it onto a t-shirt for an exceptional gift any child will treasure forever.

You can see samples of her custom work including custom-made matching pillowcases and pajama sets, on her Flickr pages.

You can also follow her on Facebook and Twitter.

Read on for an enjoyable interview to find out what her secret mission is and please leave a comment for Rebekah…

  1. Tell us a bit about yourself?

I am a self-taught (well, internet-taught really) machine embroiderer, digitizer, and seamstress.  I LOVE making things for children (mine, yours, theirs…ANY children)!  My secret mission in life is to give every child something with his/her name on it!  I’d love to sew all day and night, but must sleep sometimes (unfortunately).

  2. Apart from being ‘creative’ what do you do?

I take care of my family, and work part-time as a veterinarian.

  3. What inspires you to do the kind of work you do?

My own children and friends’ children.  I LOVE it when we give a gift and they exclaim, “You made this for ME?”  Nothing is more rewarding than seeing their beaming faces!  They always feel so special when they receive a gift with their name on it!

  4. Do you look up to anyone? Who? Why?

I look up to my husband, my mother-in-law, and my dear friend Karen.  They have such calming ways about them and are so patient.  They seem to always know how to approach any obstacle in order to achieve success!

  5. What other passions do you have in your life?

I have about a million other interests, but so little time!  I love spending time with family and friends and love outdoor activities.  I would love to spend more time heirloom sewing and smocking.  There are not enough hours in the day!

  6. What do you like most about Zibbet?

I LOVE the fact that I can list things so easily.  If something sells, I can relist in a flash, and don’t have to worry about relisting fees.

  7. What ‘new’ things would you like to see added to Zibbet?

I have read that Zibbet will soon be indexed in a way that allows my items to pop up for sale after a Google search.  I think that will make it easier to attract customers to Zibbet.  I’d also love a Zibbet widget that would allow me to put a sampling of my items/store on my blog.  Finally, I think it would be really fun to have an iPhone app to be able to monitor my store easily while I’m away from home.  (Wow!  Can you tell I love convenience?)

  8. How do you promote your work?

I have been selling for several years, but have only just now opened an internet shop.  Most of my work is word-of-mouth, but I am hoping to change that.  I use Twitter, Facebook, and will soon be using my blog!

  9. How would you recommend other Zibbeters make the most of Zibbet.com?

Definitely sign up for the premium account!  You can customize the shop so much more, and add widgets!  I think posting as many pictures as possible is great!  I also think a creative and very descriptive write-up is a must.  Finally, tagging items appropriately is the key to make sure your items pop up when a customer searches!

  10. In the future I’d like to be…

a cherished grandmother with lots of happy (and well-dressed) grandchildren!  (Hope they won’t get tired of my stitched gifts!)

I love hearing about self-taught crafters/artisans! I am also one of the many. Rebekah! Your designs are gorgeous and I can see the high quality you produce! Congratulations for being a featured Zibbeter. I absolutely agree with your iPhone app idea. I have one myself and use it for my Etsy shop, but I’m slowly moving everything to Zibbet so it would be great to have one. Too bad I’m not an API programmer! Good luck with your new internet venture, I’m sure you’ll get lots of sales!
