  1. Tell us a bit about yourself?

I love to paint. I love putting colors on a canvas and mixing them to create images. I’ve always enjoyed art and majored in art at the University of Cincinnati, College of Design, Architecture, and Art. I also got a degree in teaching as my parents thought that would be more practical. They were probably right, but after a year of teaching art in a junior high school I knew that teaching was not for me. Besides I had met the new math teacher and we got married and moved to Chicago. I worked there as a graphic designer for a publishing company.  Then we had a wonderful son, who is now a chef in Boston. Years went by and I moved to Santa Fe, NM where I did some etchings, was in a few shows and worked as a waitress, like many other artists in Santa Fe. Then I moved to Philadelphia where I started my own business doing stenciling and faux finishing on peoples walls. And learned to make floorcloths. About 18 years ago I moved to North Carolina, continued my faux finishing business and bought a house. I’ve made the living room into my studio and am in there painting almost every day.

  2. Apart from being ‘creative’ what do you do?

I shop sit sometimes in a local gallery where I show my work, and I’m involved in a free community lunch program. I’m also on a “Main Street” revitalization program in our town. I’m on the design committee so I hope this will be creative.

  3. What inspires you to do the kind of work you do?

My work is inspired by all the places I have lived and visited, Mexico, Spain, South America, and by the ocean and the intercoastal waterway which I love. Chincoteague, VA is one of my favorite places. I’m also inspired by my garden, where I spend a lot of time growing perennials.

  4. Do you look up to anyone? Who? Why?

I’ve always been inspired by Georgia O’Keeffe, her life and her work. I love this quote of hers: “I’ve been absolutely terrified every moment of my life, and I’ve never let it keep me from doing a single thing that I’ve wanted to do.”

  5. What other passions do you have in your life?

Gardening, traveling, reading, and jazz music. I often paint to the music of Miles Davis or Bill Evans.

  6. What do you like most about Zibbet?

I like the layout of the shop pages and the large, clear photos of my work.

  7. What ‘new’ things would you like to see added to Zibbet?

More focus on fine art and original paintings and painters. [Like this, thank you!]

  8. How do you promote your work?

I have work in a local gallery and I’m a member of our county artists guild. We have a studio tour every year with about 50 participating artists. I’m also on Facebook, Linkedin, and other websites, and I have a blog where I show my new work.

  9. How would you recommend other Zibbeters make the most of Zibbet.com?

Keep listing new items and keep a positive attitude.

  10. In the future I’d like to be…

Living in a house by the sea and painting every day and having my work snapped up by eager buyers even before they are dry.
