3. HISTORY - I was born the day before the D-day invasion of Europe so it was stressful jestation. My mother died at 42 of a congenital heart defect. It was only years later that I realised that invalidity and constant infirmity was not the norm. Even now I sometimes feel quite jealous to see children with strong active healthy mothers. I think that is why I feel a great kinship with Van Gogh with his empathy with both common men and women around him. He wasn't mad. He was saner than all of them. It his awareness and sensitivity wasn't as stunted as all those around him. He was just very aware and felt their pain like Jesus did, but in the end he couldn't continue living with all that emotional suffering. Look at his paintings and you'll see what I mean.
4. I studied Fine Art at Coventry College of Art UK. My most loved and respected Teacher:- Boyes, Geof Underwood and Dereck Turner. I became a designer and then cartoonist for the Oxford Mail and Times and Star, Oxford Journal UK, Johannesburg Star South Africa, McCann Ericson Advertising Australia, and FirstDown and Quarterback UK. Due to many redundencies, a bad marriage and many personal problems I was able to experience and study many therapies, religions, faith-healing and meditation on three continents. I became a telephone online psychic and drew spirit guides and guardian angels. I designed Alice's and the Sailor's Tarot cards. Using the principles of natural law and Gnosticism I wrote the principles of WholeSelf-Image-Profiling for pshychotherapy. This is my proudest achievement. I hope to be able to promote it world wide as the newest, fastest most effective and comprehensive analytical therapy. The world needs something. We also need to understand ourselves before we can truly understand each other.
5. PERSONAL LIFE - In 1978 I emmigrated to South Africa but my wife and children didn't like the afluent lifestyle. In 1984 I divorced my English wife and moved to Australia. I returned to the UK and in 2001, met and married Maria. In 2003 we moved to Mexico to be near her children and for the births of her grandchildren who are my greatest joy. I found the Mexican culture and lifestyle amazingly vibrant, free and dangerous with rife corruption, occasional kidnap threats and the news of the latest narco gang wars. At last I feel at home here in Queretaro with my beloved wife, Maria, dog, Dolly and paintings. We worked together in her school for early stimulation for mothers and babies. From Maria I learnt the principles of pre-natal programming and was able to perfect WholeSelfImageProfiling with the spiral of life. I taught art to children and have learnt so much from them that I decided to practice what I preach and started painting again. In 2008 I became a full time painter. In 2009 we opened our Gallery/studio of art and music for all ages in Millenio Queretaro.
6. PERSONAL BELIEF - I believe in Natural Law that governs the totality of reality and time and some might call the Life/force, God, the God/force or any other deity. It is sourced in the original Gnostic/knowledge that pre-dates all Christianity and Catholicism etc. I don't believe in a big daddy male deity that will protect us if we are good, or that we can make deals with it/him. The Life/Force is a blessing or a curse depending upon how we choose to see it. It treats all with equal fairness. It is not a person. It is evident in all the laws that govern us. What matters is that we can be and are, grateful for all that we have been given. I see the beauty of the life/force around me, I see the divine essence in people and it celebrate it all by painting it.
7. STYLES - I paint in many styles - Impressionist, Fauvist, cubist, Decorative, surealistic and realistic. I let the subject and natural law be my master and teacher.
8. OIL VS ACRYLIC - I have always used oils but when I came to Mexico I turned by necessity to acrylics because the tax on imported oils is so ridiculous. Since then I have found the quick drying qualities and fluidity of water based Acrylics open up much more freedom - textures and styles - painting wet in wet, wet on dry and dry on dry. I now recommend them over oils, while both have their advantages.
8. CANVAS OR BASTIDOR - I put my paintings on canvas, wood panel or bastidors. Canvas has a delightful texture and is more seductive and pleasurable. A wooden bastidor is a fraction of the cost of canvas, stronger and almost indestructable, that is if you don't lose your temper and take a spade to it, which I have on occasion. The more you love a woman, the more she can drive you crazy. Bastadors are heavier for transportation but more secure. I work on paper and stick it to wooden board, add the backing frame and finally paint the edges. That is providing the idea is successful. Paper does however require more texture, with sand or plastilita.
DESCRIPTIONS - I describe my paintings and the source of my inspiration so that you know what I am thinking and feeling. You don't have to rely on the vague guesswork and ruminations of art-experts.
