Profile for faerwear
Faerwear is inspired by many things - predominantly nature, travel, earth-based spirituality, ancestry and indigenous handicrafts - and yes, of course, faeries. I used to make crocheted halter tops and bikinis too, and sell stuff at festivals and fairs - hence 'faerwear'.
Traveling (of the nomadic sort) has also provided me with strong fuel for creativity. I ran out of money in Mexico, so I started picking up stuff off of the beach and making jewelry out of it which I sold to survive. It went well and I was able to stay for a year.
I do some custom stuff and some made-to-order stuff. Most of the rest of it comes from gifts of nature and its voices - shells, rocks, twigs, feathers, seeds, metal, clumps of deer hair, yarn, whatever. Currently, I am also writing my first book of knitting patterns.
I've been moving around a lot, a slow crawl and meander through the western hemisphere. After far too long in New York City I headed to Oregon, south to California and then on to Mexico and Guatemala where i learned spanish, lost a lot of weight, bought and sold a youth hostel, nurtured a medicinal garden, joined other traveling artisans in the markets and streets, crocheted with Mazatec women in the Oaxacan highlands, ate peyote in the desert and learned to weave on a backstrap loom with the Tzutujil Mayans of Guatemala, among other things...
I then did some time in Asheville, NC, back to the Northwest, and just recently moved to southwest New Mexico, to a tiny town near Silver City and the US/Mexico border. We're homesteading, the ultimate in DIY!
Many changes are afoot here - I look forward to having the time and space to create again, with new inspiration. I will be adding new pieces of jewelry and knitwear, knitting and crochet patterns and more! I am working on some homegrown and prepared herbal products and collecting great vintage scores to list (if I can bear to part with any of them - hard to give up turquoise cowgirl boots in my own size!). Some craft destash is coming, too, but first, I need to raise enough money to affordably install the internet in our rural abode.
