Tell us a bit about yourself?
My name is Marianna, I am Hungarian and I live in a small village in Hungary. We used to live in the UK near London, as my husband is British. But a couple of years ago we moved to Hungary, to give a better childhood for our children. I am a stay at home mum of two, our son is 12 and our little daughter is 4 years old. My husband is traveling between the UK and Hungary to go to work, as he can’t speak Hungarian. Most of the times I am alone with the children.
I learned many things (shoe designer & maker, pottery teacher, website designer, florist…) and I used to have many jobs (secretary, waitress, florist, Designer, PR Manager) but, none of them was as fulfilling what I am doing now!
I am a self-taught artist who loves the freedom of just being myself without any limitations to one particular medium. My art is about sharing what is in my heart. I don’t create to please the world, but I create to express and share myself with anyone who is willing to embrace it.
I love painting, designing and making jewelry and accessories for weddings and special occasions. I love sewing too. Every day I do different things: one day I am painting, and the other days I just want to make Petals or sew.
I am the first and the only artist (I think) at present who is using Austrian Swarovski crystals on oil paintings. I started this type of painting since February 2006, and sold many to private collectors. -
Apart from being ‘creative’ what do you do?
I love cooking, trying out new recipes. I try to learn Japanese by myself. But mostly I am doing all the house works and looking after the kids.
-
What inspires you to do the kind of work you do?
Everything really. I am thinking all day and night of new ideas and designs. I like looking around on the internet to find new materials. I like going shopping and find new and unusual supply, what nobody else was thinking to use yet. When I hold a material in my hand, I try to get the feelings of it and I just working with that feelings. I try to transform my feelings to my artwork. Sorry, but it’s so hard to explain, to find the right words for it.
-
Do you look up to anyone? Who? Why?
Since I was a young girl, I looked up on one famous Hungarian artist, his name was Endre Szász. He was creating absolutely breathtaking oil paintings. He lived in the USA, but later on he moved back to Hungary. That time when I called him up and I was asking to see him. We had a long talk about art, and he really loved my drawings and polymer clay jewelry. That meeting was so important in my life, because he gave me a lots of special advice. Sadly he passed away a few years ago…
