Tell us a bit about yourself?
My name is Karon and I live in New Brunswick on Canada’s beautiful (and freezing right now!) east coast. For 17 years, I was an elementary school teacher and administrator. Two years ago, I decided to make a change and here I am - making jewelry and celebrating new beginnings! I am enthusiastic, neat, love to laugh, am a member of a book club, swoon over any shade of green, believe nachos are an entire food group, am afraid of heights, organize and arrange everything in my line of sight, never miss ‘LOST’ or ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, am married to a fantastic guy, listen to Hawaiian music, am VERY visual, love sunrises and sunsets and walking on the beach, plant hundreds of tulips every year and adore my nieces and nephews! I’ve always loved to make pretty things or make things pretty!
-
Apart from being ‘creative’ what do you do?
Laundry...sleep...spend time at our cottage and with my family...seriously, I think all living is creative so I can’t really separate things out!
-
What inspires you to create your Jewelry?
Words, color and light have always captivated me and inspired me to create objects, experiences, environments and moods. These are threads that reach back into my childhood, and I have expressed in different forms over the years. Today, jewelry design and creation- the fun with colors, beads, connections, just ‘light me up’ with excitement, energy, and enthusiasm!
Each of my creations begins with a wiggle of excitement (sometimes a BIG one!) or a wispy idea that I cannot clearly see. It may be sparked by a quote that speaks to me, colors, magic, travel, a story (well-known or personal), my garden...and I always feel a sense of fun, whimsy, shine a little light, I love this idea and anything’s possible as each piece comes to life. Some pieces are right there, ready to be made and others need to sit for quite a long time...I can never be sure which it will be.
Bright and bold, or subtle and sweet, creating connections between words, inspiring or just plain fun, color and materials to tell a story, fills me with creative energy. Glass, resin, lucite, stones and crystals combined with sterling or fine silver help me tell each story with color and light-reflecting or absorbing materials. -
Do you look up to anyone? Who? Why?
I am deeply inspired by people who have found a way to be themselves in this world, to share their unique talents, who take chances and embrace life.
-
What other passions do you have in your life?
I love photography, especially taking pictures of small things...flowers, my jewelry, sand...I also am passionate about gardening, travel, reading, interior design, listening to music and I’m a big fan of making snowangels and footprints on a sandy beach!
-
What do you like most about Zibbet?
I like that a new community is being created and being part of that process. -
What ‘new’ things would you like to see added to Zibbet?
It would be fun to have the opportunity for members to create our own showcases of other seller’s art.
-
How do you promote your work?
Over the last year, I’ve participated in several fairs and shows, joined three artist cooperatives, made business cards, forced all my friends to wear my jewelry...I’ve been considering blogging or social shopping sites but find that all a bit baffling. Plus, I just can’t believe anyone cares what I did today! -
How would you recommend other Zibbeters make the most of Zibbet.com?
Participate, share, be active, get to know other sellers, have fun!
-
In the future I'd like to be...
Alive!
