Beautiful Wampum Ring
Beautifully handcrafted from sterling silver and wampum. This ring has a band that has a gorgeous floral design to it. The stone is actually shell! It comes from the Quohog clam shell that is only found on the coast of NorthEastern USA. Anything made from this shell is typically known as "Wampum". Native Americans in the Northeast have been using it for as long as they can remember. One of its uses was for recording important events. The shell would be worked into beads and the beads woven into a belt in such a way as to tell a story.
This shell has been very skillfully and carefully hand shaped. The quohog is very dangerous to work with.
As it is worked a dust is created, and this dust is poisonous, so great care must be used when working this very beautiful shell!
The wampum cabochon is
1" x 3/4" and the band is 3/8" wide.
This rings size 10 & 3/4.
