Vintage Brown County Potter Soup Tureen with Lid
Vintage Brown County Pottery Soup Tureen
Wonderful piece of handmade pottery from Brown County, Indiana. Likely in Nashville, IN or the immediate area, a historic art colony area with incredible craftsmen and craftswomen.
Tureen has lid with ladle opening on the edge. Knobbed top. There are handles on the sides of the piece and is a heavy piece of pottery great for everyday use or decorative purposes. Color variations include brown, tan, burnt brown and yellowish brown. There is a aqua blue on a small portion under the lid. The piece is marked with Brown County Pottery on the bottom.
All defects are by the maker and add so much character to the piece, such as the colors variations, the blue under the lid, a bump under one handle, and firing fine line crack on lid which does not detract as it is not completely through the lid.
