Hand tinted photogravure print , Framed Saint Cecilia , published 1892
by French Chic
Antique hand tinted photogravure. Framed Saint Cecilia published by Berlin Photographic Company 1892 from a painting by Gustav Naujok. Original Frame and mounts. Subtle colors and tonal range. I found this item in a flea market and knew it was something good. When I took it out of its frame I found plenty of interesting information especially on the back.
On the front I found the artists name G (Gustav) Naujok and the date of the painting 1891. Also I found an embossed studio stamp 'Copyright 1892, by Photographische Gesellschaft'
On the back I found the studio details:
Photographische Gesellschaft, Berlin SW
2219 G.Naujock (a different spelling to the painting) GNIFC
Die Heilige Cäcilie Saint Cécile Saint Cecilia
Berlin Photographic Company
London W, 133 New Bond Street New York 14 East 23rd Street (Madison Square)
Handwritten on the back is: White mat 349 (?) Jellette Burnish
I gave it all a good dusting off and cleaned the glass and reassembled it.
It has faded a little and the original tinting has changed colour in places. The beautiful mount with its textured surface and delicate gold bead inner surround does have some foxing and a water stain bottom right corner. The frame has delicate plaster work around the edges which is missing in a few minor places.
Please take a look at all the photographs as they form an important part of the item description and condition.
The image size is 7 3/4 inches by 9 1/4 inches / 19.7 cm by 23.5 cm
Overall frame size is 14 1/4 inches by 17 1/4 / 36.2 cm by 43.8
Because the frame, glass and mount are all original to 1892 I am selling it complete. If you would prefer to have it without frame and glass the shipping will be much cheaper.
It weighs 4.3 lb / 1950 g without packaging.
