Mezcala Family fetishes

by michaelgoard

These intriguing Mezcala effigy figurines have links to an ancient past.

Here I've taken a few artifacts from my collection .. in this case ancient Mezcala stone figures ... and created copies.

These replicas are cast from molds taken directly from the originals . They have the look and feel of smooth stone and fit comfortably in your hand.

The Mezcala effigy figure is an interesting collectible that can be appreciated as a votive offering ... garden spirit ... worry doll ... teaching tool ... decorative element.

The 3 items for sale are cast copies and NOT the originals. The originals are ancient artifacts from Mexico. Although these are copies of the originals, they are not intended to deceive and would be recognized as such. They are cast resin with an imitation jade look.

MEZCALA ART of ANCIENT MEXICO - This art is characterized by an extreme economy of means and forms of expressive vigor. These works fascinate not only by their simplicity, which is close to that of Cycladic art ... but also because they are the most notable product of this culture. One of the regions which gave birth to the most accomplished and perfect sculptural art was the Mezcala area. Located in the mountainous valleys in the state of Guerrero, Mexico ... Mezcala art is difficult to date owing to the almost total absence of scientific excavations but is estimate at 200 B.C. - 500 A.D.
