Welcome to the world of Mimi and Colette!
As you can see by looking in my shop, I enjoy working with yarn and fabric. Toss in the occasional recycled items and you have the result of some of the things I like to do in my spare time. With so many ideas racing through my head, this shop is a family effort. Mom and I take care of the sewing and crochet with my husband managing the clocks and coasters. Not shown yet are the wood items that my son handles.
For as long as I can remember I was surrounded by the creating bug. Some of my earliest memories are of me sitting next to Mom watching her knit socks and crochet lace edgings to hankies. Unfortunately knitting was not really my calling. Now crochet, that is another story.
During my childhood, my Aunt came to live with us. She was a seamstress in France and created the most fabulous clothes for herself. Of course with both of us living under the same roof, I was exposed to sewing. It didn't take long before I was hooked. The designs, patterns, textures, colors are endless and always evolving. Oh, if I could have her talent!
Having grandparents that lived through the Great Depression and parents that lived through the Cold War, I heard many stories of 'not having enough'. Whether it was food or just 'things'. You made do with what you had or created something out of found objects. So I guess this is what influenced me to recycle items.
Inspiration is all around us. We just have to open our eyes.
