Hamsa hand pendant

by The Bead and Bean

The Hamsa hand is a well-known sign of protection that is widely used throughout the Middle East. In Islam it is known as Fatima's Hand, after the prophet Mohammed's daughter Fatima Zahra; in the Jewish tradition it is called Miriam's Hand after Aaron's sister, and in some Christian cultures was adopted as the Virgin Mary's hand as well.

Sometimes it is adopted by those who are at a personal or spiritual crossroads and are seeking guidance, in addition to its use as a protective charm.

In many instances the hand is accompanied by an Evil eye talisman, and this pendant features a swirled white eye in the center of the palm. Just imagine the designs you could create around this piece! The delicate scrollwork of this silver plated pendant would be at home in the center of an elaborate work of art, or equally suited on a simple chain.

It measures about 1 3/4" (43mm) long with the top loop and over 1" (27mm) wide. The pendant is shown as part of a larger piece for example only; this listing is for one pendant by itself.
