Wild Purple Passionfruit
The Wild Purple Passionfruit is a fast-growing vine that climbs to 30 feet or more. It grows over trees, walls, homes and buildings. The Wild Purple Passionfruit is native to Cuba, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Venezuela, Columbia and Northern Ecuador - where it commonly grows. The 2" apple-shaped edible fruit ripens from September to December. In Jamaica, the fruit is scooped out of its hard rind and served with wine and sugar. This particular species of passion-fruit is known for being more disease and pest resistant than other passion-fruit species.
