Cabochon pendant semi precious Imperial Jasper
A hand-cut Imperial jasper cabochon with a beadwoven bezel makes a stunning one of a kind pendant. To showcase the full beauty of the stone, I beaded around the edges only, leaving the back exposed (see pictures) as well as the front. The beadwork holds the stone securely in place without hiding any more of it than absolutely necessary.
This piece of jasper came from Cabbingrough. The landscape presented in the cabochon is full of lovely, subtle variations in hue and pattern. To create the pendant, I picked out three colors of seed beads - a matte dark olive, glossy transparent beige and a matte dark brown - to complement to hues of the stone. Using these I wove the bezel using only a needle and sturdy nylon beading thread - a project of some hours. The worked edge is intended to evoke the twists and flutes of Bronze Age jewelry.
